He supposedly runs the family's restaurant, but all the actual work is done by Chie. He like gambling (particularly oicho-kabu), but always loses. Chie has so little respect for him that she calls him by his first name. Everyone else in the neighborhood calls him "Kuzutetsu" (scrapmetal).
But it's not all bad. He doesn't drink, and at least he keeps the local yakuza in check. Eventually, he gets a "job" keeping thugs out of Yurine's okonomiyaki shop.
Despite being separated from Yoshie, he's still very much in love with her, not that he'll admit it.
